Description
Fanfic illustration of Merche Eäriel's Tale of Eäriel and Lindendil (unpublished as yet, as far as I know) - 4
A year ago, a friend asked me to illustrate her LOTR fanfic about a young female Dwarf, Eäriel, who falls in love with a Noldorin Elf. It was my first go at illustrating a fanfic, so I was pretty excited and I had a lot of fun. In her headcanon, Dwarf-women are not bearded, though, so I was threat-, I mean, asked not to give them a beard, much to my chagrin (because Eäriel, I'm sorry, but Dwarf-women have beards, period ).
Merche Eäriel wanted Eäriel the dwarf-maiden (ahem, beardless) and Lindendil the Noldorin Elf's first meeting to bear a resemblance to Botticelli's 'The Birth of Venus', so I took that beautiful painting as reference and inspiration for the poses.
This one took me quite a while, what with the poses, proportions, height differences, fabrics, background,...It can get better, of course, but I'm rather happy with how it came out. Thinking about trying digital colouring with this one.
-Media: Graphite
-References: My friend and her partner's faces for Eäriel and Lindendil's faces. Botticelli's 'The Birth of Venus' for the poses and general feel of the drawing (upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia…. A couple of pics of streams and trees for the bakground.

This is a beautiful piece! The characters are really well rendered - you emphasize the different body-types of the elf and dwarf but do so subtly and delicately. Their poses look natural and have this gracefulness about them. Great job! I hope you will colour it in the future and am looking forward to seeing it!
